Marked increase in new covid cases. Is the office party really worth it?

How would your business manage if the entire work force had to self isolate for ten days?

As people continue to talk about their Christmas parties and wonder whether to have one or not or even whether to go or not, new cases have risen again.

Today’s new reported cases in the UK are 53,945 which brings the seven day rollup to 311,957 and deaths, whilst still dropping, have more or less levelled off.

It is a milestone day for Germany as well as it has now recorded over 6 million cases in total. It’s generally a bit of a romp at the moment if you check Johns Hopkins which you can do here:

The Christmas party issue might not have seemed that important before but now that the Omicron variant has come into play, if one person at a party tests positive, then all those present at the party, including the double vaxxers, must then self isolate for 10 days if it proves to be of the Omicron variant.

Businesses ought to consider the wisdom of putting its work force at risk of having to stay away from work en masse like this; indeed an entire company could be shut down at a moment’s notice. That perhaps deserves a little more careful thought than before when double vaxxers did not have to self isolate. If you run a business, how would your fare if 100% of the work force had to stay at home – especially in December?

Perhaps pure commercial common sense has to take a part in the discussion over this now. May be business should take a leaf out of the Crown’s book – you will not see two members of the family on or in line for the throne together in the same transport. Not so silly, eh?

Still you could be getting on with putting up your Christmas decorations if you are stuck at home – Advent has arrived!
