Extension of only a month? Wait and see The pressure had just built too much. Now the PM has said that a cautious approach will be required to lifting restrictions. A formal announcement will be made Monday. The options are to lift all restrictions which is now seen as unlikely or lift some or change nothing. We shall be waiting with baited breath. This news will certainly not please the hospitality trade where 25% of hospitality businesses have not yet re-opened. It will no doubt upset the night time economy as they have been closed for 16 months and have had no business at all. So what will be expected is a package of relief from the chancellor to coincide with whatever announcement is on the way. One of the areas which is causing great worry is the end of the rent moratorium on 30th June whereby landlords will be able to exercise their rights in relation to the premises – in their view at long last. However such action could be devastating for many businesses which have just not been able to pay. The next few weeks will a tense time. With new cases on the increase at a very high rate it will raise anxiety for a lot of people in a lot of different ways.
