So the PM has pronounced but we all knew what was coming because of the controlled leaks over the weekend.
The PM’s announcement that the lifting of lockdown will now be delayed for a month will come as a great relief to many. The explanations given at the press conference as to the state of the disease, hospitalisation, vaccination and everything to do with it was full and comprehensive – and also very logical. Let us catch up with the vaccinations before the disease overtakes us.
Sadly the hospitality industry will be less pleased. There will still be social distancing and night time businesses and those with insufficient space to open will sadly once again have to wait. Eventually of course things will open up but we have to hope that this is when our system will be able to cope with it.
The warning was equally clear – we shall have to live with covid-19 now for ever. It is all about control and minimising the problems of infection and hopefully symptomatic disease while it will always be there in a-symptomatic individuals.
Today is a day for reflection and thinking about where this will get us. Tomorrow one for reaction. In the meanwhile how about a nice club sandwich down at the local?
