Next Article HRH Prince Philip passes away It is a great relief that numbers of deaths are falling but there is still plenty of scope for people to be ill Deaths have continued to drop and have remained in double figures for some while now. Might we soon be seeing some days reported with single figure deaths? That would be good indeed. In the meanwhile, however, the drop in new cases has flattened off and is not dropping as it was. This is put down to the increased social mixing and return to school measures which were implemented earlier in March. It does appear now that the virus is more concentrated in arising in younger people but of course this would be entirely in line with the fact that the older half of the population has now been vaccinated. Younger people have tended to be less wary of the problems throughout and as they mix more it is inevitable that they are the ones who contract it. Looking at the Johns Hopkins table, total recorded deaths in the UK are now approaching 127000 whilst total world wide deaths are approaching 3 million. There are some vexing numbers of new cases but at the last count the UK came number 34 in the table and the UK has recorded 1862 deaths per million of population but leaping ahead of everyone in numbers of deaths now is Brazil at circa 4000 a day. This pandemic has a long long way to go yet.
